My Role

I provide flexible, knowledgeable, and creative support. My work focuses on the needs of each person. I follow the ideas of disability justice and work openly to make sure everything is accessible.

I do this in the following ways:

  • Assessment:

Assessment is a team process that focuses on your strengths. It uses both formal and informal tools. These tools may include:

    • functional assessment (looking at how you do everyday tasks),

    • environmental analysis (studying your surroundings), and

    • augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) assessment (if needed).

We work with you, not on you.

We share the results in simple language and in a way that works best for you.

  • Planning

Planning is done together with you. We create goals based on what is most important to you and what you want for your future.

    The plan is:

    • Written clearly so it is easy to understand.

    • Checked often to make sure it still works for you.

    • Monitored using data to track progress.

Your family and carers can be involved if you want, and in the way you choose.

  • Intervention

Intervention helps you build skills, change your environment, and connect with services. It also includes coaching for the people around you, like family or carers.

The goal is to help you become more independent, not to create dependency.

  • Advocacy

Advocacy means helping you understand your rights, navigate systems, and make sure your voice is heard.

If systems create barriers that should not exist, I will point this out and work with you to address them.

  • Case Management

Case management means working with other professionals, like speech pathologists, occupational therapists (OTs), psychologists, paediatricians, and support coordinators. You are always at the centre of the team.

I work across services to make sure everyone is on the same page. I also ensure that recommendations are embedded in your everyday life.
